I originally thought rowing was just going to be a sport that I did to keep myself active and to hang out with my friends, but it became so much more than that. Ever since my first step in the boat I knew that this was the sport I loved and needed to continue past my high school career. The first few weeks of my sophomore year I didn't take the sport so seriously. I wanted to win, but just being around my friends was the main reason why I did it. However, after that first Regatta, the adrenaline I felt and the rush I got while racing against those other crews is a feeling I have never felt before and knew the second it ended that I needed this feeling more and more. After that race, I started to really push myself to the limit. I was able to drop my 2k below 8 by the end of my novice year. Just a few weeks ago a task that felt impossible I was able to do. Ever since then I have been pushing everyday to become a better and stronger rower not only to help myself, but everyone else on my team. The nature and competitiveness of crew is why I love it so much. The personal goals I am able to achieve to help bring the best out of me truly makes this sport special to me, but also the team goals with my crew members and the satisfaction I get when we achieve something together is a feeling that I will never forget. Rowing in college is something that could truly change my life forever. When with my teammates, I always strive to be a leader on and off the boat. I help to encourage my fellow boat mates while also assisting the younger rowers to help them become better rowers and people. I am always ready to learn from my coaches on any advice that they give me to make myself a better rower. Whenever anyone, whether it's my coach, my captain, or other people just looking to give me anything I can work on, I make sure to listen and then use that information and apply it to my rowing. In school, I am constantly striving to be the best student athlete I can. I maintain my GPA to something that would make not just me but also my parents and coaches proud. I frequently work with my classmates to learn more and better myself and my grades. I want to go to a college that will bring the best out of me and push me past my limits academically and athletically. I'm willing to look at all options for my rowing career that will be able to help me succeed at the highest possible level. In the long run, I want to find a college that wants to help me grow as a rower and a person and also one that I can help support in any ways possible towards the team and the school. I want to be able to make my parents and coaches proud while also being able to support and achieve with my teammates in every way possible.
