For my college coxswain experience, I am hoping to be part of a team that is competitive during spring, summer, and fall racing seasons. I plan to study Business Administration, so the college I attend needs to have an accredited business school with a strong job placement history. My current cumulative GPA puts me into the selective/highly selective category. I have challenged myself with both Advanced Placement and Honors courses, as available.
As a coxswain I am known in both my high school team and in my fall season club team for creating a positive feeling in the boats I captain. I motivate rowers using supportive and lively rapport, both on and off the water. My rowers respect me, and see me as a key part of their successes. They regularly comment positively on my contributions to the swing of our shell in both races and practices.
I am known for taking rowers from different backgrounds and schools and turning them into a seamless unit. I tune into their “tells” of exhaustion to motivate them correctly to return to optimum performance. My rowers and coaches identify my turning skills in head racing season as sharp and nimble; we routinely pass other boats during races by taking a more advantageous line. In our final regatta of the fall 2022 season, we won our U17 M8+ race by 46.24 seconds. During the spring 2022 sprint season, my boats consistently exceeded expectations for 4+ races, consistently placing for medals. Although I have found success with both 4+s and 8+s, I feel I am a stronger 8+s coxswain.
I am reliable and work easily with my coaches (both club and high school). I implement the race plan and am able to provide thoughtful input to its design.
I am highly self-reflective, striving to constantly improve and refine my skill set. I work with my boatmates to tailor my efforts to their unique needs as rowers during racing season and during off-the-water conditioning.
Thank you for your consideration.
