Hi there, I'm Luke Ruhl. I'm the oldest of four from a close knit military family. My father, an F-16 pilot and Air Force Colonel, has always taught me, through words and example, to look at life's obstacles as opportunities and then find a way to overcome and excel. Moving frequently presented me with many challenges growing up. I've learned to adapt quickly to new environments. I've played many sports, but found my passion for rowing when we moved to Virginia. Since I was new and rowing with veteran rowers, I pressed to learn as much as I could and become the best that I could possibly be. I learned quickly, trained hard, and pushed myself to the max to equal my peers. I always strive not simply to achieve, but to excel, as evidenced by my grades, achievements and accomplishments. My parents have taught me to go the distance and be the be best I could be as well as the importance of being a supportive leader and team player. With crew, I've learned how to become a more positive leader as well as how to most improve myself by listening and trusting in my coaches. After my novice year as a sophomore, I improved greatly, was placed in 1st 8 and selected as team captain...that's when Covid hit. It's my desire to attend a top university where I not only have the chance to row, but can also continue to achieve my high academic goals while doing my part as a member of a strong team and college community. My family's lifestyle of constant change and service before self has taught me to be resilient and humble, determined and coachable. Those traits make me who I am. I look forward to the future and upcoming possibilities, challenges and opportunities it holds for me...and I thank you very much in advance for your time and consideration.
