Personal Statement
I am a player that’s passionate about soccer (Futbol) because it is the ultimate team sport. It takes the personal skills of each player and must be blended with the skills, tactics and attitudes of the whole. Regardless of level, all players must work as a unit, with their coaches, to reach their goal. As a midfielder and outside back, I try to help my teammates be better players by putting them in good situations to succeed on and off the field.
Being from a Colombian family, soccer has always been a part of my life. (The first gift my grandfather gave me as a toddler was a soccer ball.) I’ve learned that soccer is a sport of solving problems on the pitch in real time. Unlike most sports, there are no time outs to solve problems. One must analyze the ongoing situations during the games, adjust and execute the solution with your teammates. That is what I love about soccer. I have learned from my coaches and parents that it is the same with life in general. My goal is to earn a college degree and graduate without college debt while playing collegiate level soccer. To accomplish this, I must primarily do well with my academics (GPA and ACT / SAT) to combine academic scholarships with athletic scholarships and continue to study and train hard to improve myself as a student and a soccer player.
