Motivation comes from playing the game I love. My name is Nikko Citero and I’m part of the graduating class of 2021 at Heritage High School in Brentwood, California. I have been playing soccer for the past 12 years, 9 of those years at the competitive level. Currently I play for Walnut Creek Surf Soccer Club as a Defensive Mid-Fielder. My love for soccer began at a young age watching my older brothers play all the way through their high school years. By playing this incredible sport I have learned communication, precision, and to believe in myself.
My parents have always been a positive influence in my life, encouraging me to do my personal best both on the field and in the classroom. My main academic goal is to study athletic training because I want to learn more about the human body and ways to help myself stay healthy. I also want to take this knowledge and help other athletes in bettering themselves. The most challenging obstacle that I have faced is adjusting to life under this global pandemic. My senior year as well as my soccer season has been heavily affected. However I’ve done what I can to rise to the occasion. Throughout this year I have taken it upon myself to organize practice sessions everyday either with a couple of teammates or solo. Outside of the pandemic I haven’t encountered any life changing obstacles so far (knock on wood), but that doesn’t stop me from constantly challenging myself and pushing myself to be better everyday.
