My name is Mateo Salazar I am a 6' 5" 210 lbs goalkeeper from a small town in Colorado. During my freshman year I started in goal on JV and was second string behind a senior on Varsity. I have always been fighting for my spot on the field all throughout my club playing years. This has pushed me to always strive to work harder and improve my skill in order to ensure there was no doubt in anyones mind that I was the one who should start and stay in goal. It has always been my goal to work my hardest to prove to my teammates, coaches, parents, fans, and myself that I am the best on and off the field. I always tried to get in extra training in goal during and after the regular season. I am proud to stay that my hard work has been acknowledged and awarded. I have received two academic letters so far, for my freshman and sophomore years. By maintaining a 3.80 GPA. I was acknowledged will an all conference honorable mention for my junior year season. I aspire to win league my senior year and be able to go to the state tournament. Most importantly to make my folks and myself proud in what I will have been able to accomplish. My family comes from Argentina where soccer is everything. Ever since I started playing soccer at 6 years old I fell in love with the game. I became a goalie as soon as I could, just because the mindset need to excel in that position is like none other. Playing goalie has made come out of my comfort zone and allowed me to grow as a person and as a player, specifically as a leader. I always have strived to do what was necessary to benefit the team I was on at the moment. I remember my junior year I was playing my schools rivals, the game came down to over time where I saved a PK which would have costed us the game. After that moment I knew that my hard work wasn't for nothing and it motivated me even more because I knew that if I worked hard enough even my biggest dreams could be accomplished.
