My name is Jake Flad and I am currently a senior outside/center back at Glastonbury High school in Glastonbury, Connecticut. I have been playing soccer since I was five years old. In one word, “growth” is how I would describe myself as an individual over the past 12 years both on and off the field.
I am very hard working, disciplined, and responsible. I’m able to manage my time very well and I pride myself on always doing the right thing. I have a solid GPA and if and when I find myself struggling, I am quick to reach out for help because I believe that asking questions and seeking advice is how I can improve. My determination has helped me maintain consistent academic growth and develop higher self- confidence over the past four years.
As I have developed into the soccer player that I am today, I continue to be a highly coach-able athlete. I aim to always put forth 110% every time I step onto the field and represent my school and community. This includes being a trustworthy and responsible teammate. I have solid field awareness, most notably anticipating a play before it happens, and I am a forceful defender. I am also very explosive when needing to change direction and for running down the opposing player. I am confident in sending balls down the line with both my left and right foot and I’m a great communicator on the field. Throughout my high school career thus far, nothing has been handed to me and I’ve always proven what I am worth by my work ethic, skills, and my passion for the game. My dedication is evident notably during the off season as well, as I consistently train with the highest level of grit, on my own merit.
Being among teammates, who have the same goals as I, has helped me to become a stronger person and leader. Next I am looking forward to the opportunity of playing soccer at the collegiate level, learning from the most experienced, and being academically challenged at the same time. While I am proud of how I have grown, I look forward to how I will continue this transformation.
