Personal Statement
Dear coach
My name is Nicolas Cordero. I was born and raised in Chile, South America. I moved to Florida in my Junior High School year. I grew up in a sports environment, my older brother was an amateur golf player and one of my sisters is a college Golf student. Sports has always been very important in my raising and my parents have encouraged me and my siblings to play a sport. Sports build discipline, teamwork, and character. These three skills have been key in my life as I use them in my daily school life. I am very focused and disciplined when it comes to studying. I have a core GPA of 3.9 and a weighted GPA of 3.8. Also, building teamwork has been key when playing soccer, as a player, we all pursue a common objective, in and out of the soccer field. To train hard, play using our technical skills, and play intelligently.
I became interested in soccer primarily because it is a prevalent sport in South America as well as in Europe. I loved watching it and I followed role models like Alexis Sanchez. I have had soccer balls since I was born and a soccer Goal in my yard. So, I play since I could walk. I played in school recess, with friends, and of course in my school in Chile. I was a member of the school soccer team. When I moved to Florida, I played for Weston FC team, and that was key to maintain and enhance my soccer skills and make new friends.
I have learned through soccer, that I can be a very disciplined person, and I can control my emotions, in the midst of highly tense situations, in and out the soccer field.
My academic goals are to maintain and improve my academic achievements and pursue an engineering career. I have excellent math skills and I like challenging classes.
I moved to Florida, as mentioned earlier in June 2021 (Junior High School year), and lived on my own for a whole year, as my mother just moved in May 2022 to Georgia, where we currently live. That year, living by myself was very challenging. I went to a new school, and lived on my own and I had to be particularly disciplined and responsible so to succeed in this undertaking.
Playing for Weston FC was a unprecedented support and allowed me to develop a sense of belonging. It helped me to further strengthen my analytical skills on the soccer field. Play intelligent, look for playing patterns of the other team and make the right decisions.
Finally, I would like to continue on this path of studying hard, succeeding in my academic goals, and playing soccer, which is my passion.
