Talen Butler '23 Recruiting Profile

My name is Talen Butler. I was 5 years old when my parents first introduced me to soccer. I immediately fell in love with the game and the feeling of competition. Since then, I have played on multiple club teams, met numerous coaches and have gotten to play with some very talented and skilled players. 

I am currently a central midfielder for Sporting Iowa East. During the 3 years of time our team has been together, we have accomplished many things, like reaching the State Cup Finals in our first year as a club. Thanks to my coach and fellow teammates, I have greatly improved my individual skills and gameplay. I am also a team player and believe that having a good bond with teammates is an important aspect of any sport, especially soccer. During practice, I have demonstrated my ability to be a quick learner and very coachable player. I have worked on my confidence on the pitch, which has changed the way I play immensely. I continue to remind myself to keep a positive attitude and always try my hardest. Off the pitch, I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout all of my high school career. When it comes to the classroom, I am constantly finding ways to improve myself as a student. I enjoy setting high standards and accomplishing my goals. That is why I believe I am meant to play soccer at a collegiate level, and throughout the years, this has become one of my biggest goals. Finding a college that can help me fulfill my academic and athletic needs is very important to me. I am always planning for my future, so one day, I can look into the past and see how far I’ve gotten.  No matter where I am in life, on or off the pitch, I will continue striving to become the best version of myself.
