I always believe in the saying, “when the going gets tough, the tough gets going.” I value processes and take every success or failure as a lesson. This positive mindset has cultivated my optimistic disposition and has guided me along the way in my life. “Rome wasn’t built in one day.” Football has also lectured me on delayed gratification. Amid the demanding and grueling training sessions, I persevere and tried my best to brush up my skills and get mentally and physically ready for each game. In spite of the defeats and challenges, I strived to stand tall with my optimistic attitude. Dwelling in sorrow is useless but converting negativity into motivation means everything.
Sports has been more than just a pastime for me. Accompanying me for nearly my whole life, I see it as my friend and an indispensable part of me. On top of that, it has also been my coach, my mentor. Being a footballer has taught me to be diligent, persistent and perseverant. Despite the unpredictacality in a match, I need to be responsible for my role and get ready for every competition. For several times I needed to spend my time on the bench and did not get to enjoy the fun in the pitch, I also considered those experiences as learning opportunities. Watching the match as a spectator allows me to observe and learn from my teammates, as well as the opposing team. To excel, modesty is definitely the key.
Being one of the members of the Hong Kong Team made me realise the important of resilience as well. As the representatives of 8 million Hong Kong people, our behaviours and our performances are the focus of mass media and the general public. Being in the limelight brings me stress, but at the same time, it reminds me of the importance of being responsible. When I come across with negative and humiliating comments online, I remind myself of my role and seize the next chance to make a difference again.
Football is part of me. With my avid enthusiasm and experience in football, I wish to pursue my studies in related field and become a professional player in the future.
