Reef Ziegelbauer '26 Recruiting Profile

Soccer has been my passion since I was just three years old. The feeling of executing a clean challenge or a clever assist, and the lifelong friendships forged on the field, have made soccer an integral part of my life. It has taught me the values of hard work, discipline, and teamwork, and given me a sense of belonging and community. However, like many people, I lost my way during the pandemic, and the dream of playing for my nation at the highest level seemed out of reach. But I didn't give up. I found my focus again, and I'm now working harder than ever to achieve my goals.

I practice wherever and whenever I can, even outside of formal training sessions. Using my brother's swimming lessons at the local sports club I have honed my skills by practicing my first touches, working on my driven passes, my crossing, and shooting. I know that consistent practice is the key to improvement. I'm always looking for ways to hone my skills and techniques, and I never give up until I get it right.

My ultimate dream is to represent my country in soccer and play in the EPL. However, I'm also realistic and know that the road to success is a long one. Regardless of where my soccer journey takes me, I pledge to always pour my heart and soul into the beautiful game and be a supportive and hard-working player. As a team player with strong leadership skills, I'm always willing to make the necessary passes and work together to achieve a common goal.

As a Student Representative and House Captain, I've honed valuable skills that translate onto the soccer field. I'm adept at public speaking, encouraging others, and being a role model. These skills have helped me become a better friend, leader, and teammate on the field, motivating and inspiring my teammates to achieve their best.

In college, I'm eager to pursue a degree in architecture, with MIT being a prime choice. As a high-achieving student with a growth mindset, I'm always excited to take on new challenges and improve my study habits. I strive to be a role model to those around me by constantly becoming a better version of myself.

I possess an open mind and am always eager to learn and improve. I'm a friendly and approachable individual who connects well with people on and off the field. I believe that everyone has their own unique strengths and weaknesses, and while some around me may have better or worse skills than me, I am always willing to help them feel welcome and like they have a spot on the team. I'm respectful, detest letting others down, and always listen attentively and work hard both in class and on the training ground. 

Overall, with my positive attitude, hard-working mentality, and friendly demeanor, I believe I can make a valuable addition to any team.
