Dear Coaches,
My name is Philip Strauss, and I greatly appreciate the opportunity to introduce myself and share insights into my academic, athletic, and personal journey.
Born and raised in London, England, I spent my first 12 years there before moving to Sigtuna, Sweden. I am currently a student at Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska Läroverket (SSHL) in Sigtuna, pursuing the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme with a focus on Business Management, Economics and also Sports Science where I am due to graduate in the summer of 2025 with a predicted GPA of 3.8 or higher. For more details about my school, please visit SSHL's website.
Soccer has been an integral part of my life since the age of four. My early years in the sport were at Wetherby Pre-Prep School in London Wetherby School. At Wetherby I played as a first-team member and often captained the team. My journey continued at St Paul’s Juniors St. Paul's School, where I maintained my first-team position and was twice honoured with sporting colours for soccer, a distinction awarded to only a select few annually.
Currently, I represent both the SSHL school varsity team and a regional team in Stockholm. Over the years, I have played various positions, starting off as a defender, eventually establishing myself as a left-winger. Unique to my playing style is my ambidexterity, allowing me to proficiently use both feet. I pride myself on being a dedicated team player with a strong competitive spirit.
My ambition extends beyond the field, as I aspire to play soccer at the university level while pursuing a strong academic education. My academic background is marked by attendance at competitive and selective institutions, where I have consistently achieved high standards.
In addition, I have achieved notable successes including winning the league in 2019, as well as leading my school team to victory in the NECIS tournaments in 2022 and 2023, where I was the top scorer in the most recent tournament.
Beyond athletics, I have recently been awarded the Curt Nicolin Foundation scholarship which is a very selective and prestigious scholarship only awarded to a select few. I am actively involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) program, aiming to complete the silver level this year. At SSHL, I serve as a school ambassador and representative, participating in open houses, student fairs, and other events. I also hold the position of Treasurer in the school Environmental Group. Outside school I am a percussionist in the local Samba Group, coach a youth soccer team as well as coach for the Swedish Football Association youth soccer summer school. Additionally, I work part-time at McDonald's in Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
Outside my above mentioned activities, I enjoy skiing, golfing, playing tennis & paddle, working out, creating music, and teaching soccer.
Should you require any further information or wish to discuss potential opportunities, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.
Best regards,
Philip
