I've been thinking about what to write in this space that would make recruiters clear on what type of program I hope to join and why they should recruit me. The things that make me stand out are hard to describe. My high school head coach calls them "intangibles." My coaches know they can rely on me to set the tone for practices and games, and act in a way that contributes to a positive team culture in addition to being a lock-down defender.
In addition to soccer, I am also a varsity wrestler. Wrestling has given me a demonstrable edge when it comes to mental and physical toughness on the pitch. Off the field, I am a student in the prestigious pre-engineering magnet program at LHS, volunteer with the Kentucky AIDS Education and Training Center, and am a bioengineering research assistant at the University of Kentucky's Grady Lab. I say all these things to let you know you will never have to worry about my grades, work ethic, attitude, fitness, or technical skills. All I ask is for the opportunity to play and be coached at the collegiate level. After twelve years of playing soccer, even with all the sacrifice and work that comes with it, I still love the game. At your school, I will continue to push myself as an athlete and student so that I can deliver results on the field and in the classroom, and help others when I graduate. Thank you for the consideration.
