My name is Ian O'Connor, part of the high school class of 2024. I am looking to continue my soccer career and education in college as a student-athlete. I first started gaining an interest in goalie at 10 years old whilst living overseas in Germany where I played for a local club and learned to speak German from my German teammates. Growing up in a military family, as well as playing goalie, I learned the value and progress that can come with hard work and dedication. I value the competition and difficulty of being a goalie which I see as one of the hardest positions in sports.
Currently, I am a senior in high school and am a starter and senior captain on my high school team which won the 2023 Maine Class B State Championship for its fourth year in a row (eight of last nine post seasons). I also play club soccer for Maine Lightning as well as AA club hockey.
In high school, I am a committed student taking several AP classes with a 99.32 GPA and high honor roll. I am also co-president of my high school's Global Action Club where I volunteer and organize fundraisers for local and international charities. I am also a volunteer coach, both for a AAA U12 hockey team and Yarmouth Colts Youth Soccer. As an older brother to two younger sisters, I understand the value of being a good role model as well as making a positive influence in others lives, which is one of the reasons I enjoy volunteering.
As far as soccer is concerned I have been a part of 5 state championship teams over the past 3 years: 3 for high school (2 as a starter) and 2 as a starter for my club team. I also play midfield during the club season to get a taste for the field, improve my foot skills, and keep a mile time of 5:20. However, goalkeeper will always be my primary position. I actively seek the competition soccer brings and the satisfaction of being a part of a team where I can represent my teammates. I look to continue my passion for being a goalkeeper at the collegiate level.
