Hello, my name is Colin McConkey and I am in the class of 2018 at The Blake School, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I currently have a 3.5 GPA in nearly all honors and AP courses. At 5’ 11” and 180 lbs, I prefer to play holding mid, but have experience at full back and striker. Coaches have expressed that I am a very versatile player, as well as a natural goal scorer.
This past fall was my 4th year on the Varsity team at The Blake School. I began in 8th grade, the youngest player in more than a decade to make the team. As a freshman, I started at forward when we, for the second year in a row, were conference champions and section finalists. As a sophomore, I was the leading scorer and named All Conference Honorable Mention in the IMAC Conference. On my club team, Tonka United, I have been voted captain for the second year in a row and last year we placed second in the state, as well as winning numerous national tournaments. Most recently, I have been invited to play on a nationally ranked tournament team, Omega Select, which partakes in one tournament around the United States every month.
Growing up at a small independent school, I have enjoyed my relationship with faculty and being around other interested students. Academically I strive to stay in AP and honors classes so I can maintain a high level of intellectual interaction and challenge among other smart students. That is one reason why I believe the ideal school for me is a place where I can succeed not only as an athlete, but also as a student. Blake is a place where academics always come first, similar to the college experience I hope to explore. Along with a medium to small class size, I like the idea of having a low ratio of students to faculty.
