Personal Statement
My name is Lucas Kaneko, and where I come from it's not quite cornbread and chicken, but the meals are certainly cooked with something special.. I come from Warsaw, Missouri which you might only know if someone mentions Harry S. Truman Dam, but maybe not at all. See, what's so curious about Warsaw is that it's so small that there is no soccer at all, and yet I grew to love it enough to practice endless hours in my backyard, mostly by myself, with a whole town at my back telling me that soccer doesn't belong in Warsaw. For that reason my home team and my home away from home, is in Sedalia, Missouri, a full 45 minute drive from Warsaw. For such a long drive you'd think that I'd be playing for someone flashy and special, but you might be surprised to find out that it's really not, in fact it's quite the opposite, it's a little Christian School by the name of Applewood, who has a hard time fielding 11 players, but it's the school that would play a homeschooler, so that's where I play. Despite it being small and not the most prestigious team, I have grown as a player, team mate, and captain, perhaps more than I would have if I did play for a conference winning team, for the simple reason that, through adversity you find the most growth; struggling to field a team taught me to value my teammates, not always having advanced teammates taught me the importance of hard work and creativity, not playing with varsity age guys made me constantly learn new ways to adapt and new ways to teach the younger guys, and not having subs taught me to rub some dirt in it. I'm just a small town boy with a dream, let's make it true.
