My name is Ethan Murray and I'm a goalkeeper. I've been playing keeper since I was seven years old, and I currently play on the Medford Strikers 04 Academy team. Also, I train with Jill Loyden at The Keeper Institute, and I'm proud to say that I was recently named to the New Jersey State ODP Team.

The successful goalkeeper must live in two worlds at once.  They are part of a team, yet must be able to work as an individual. In most games they are barely noticed, until all eyes are on them.    Knowing that a few inches is the only thing standing between a spectacular save or a spectacular failure. The goalkeeper must withstand incredible pressure and possess the ability to quickly and completely move on from a setback.   

The motto at my goalkeeper training facility is "Building Great Goalkeepers and Even Better People" and it makes perfect sense to me.    Character, commitment and ability are my pillars of success.   Success cannot be achieved if one of the pieces is missing. The lessons I've learned while in the goal are what will propel me to success during my time as a collegiate student and athlete and well beyond.     To become a great goalkeeper requires a commitment to perfecting the art and science of the position.  It's repetitions until a skill becomes rote,  controlling your emotions so you can remain one hundred percent focused on your task, seeking feedback that is vital for continuous improvement, and becoming a voice on the field your teammates look for and rely on.    

My goal is to become as good a player as I can be and contribute to the success of the team.   Maintaining my focus on the pillars of success along with quiet determination will help me achieve my goals, both as a college athlete and a successful adult.
