Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Tomas Alfredo Sampson, I am 16 years old and I have big aspirations of be able to attend a college that will not only let me play the sport I love and enjoy, but will also let me get my degree in sports communications. This way afterwards, I will have the opportunity to work and stay around the sport that I have grown up playing passionately, so I can do what I love and love what I do. I started playing soccer when I was four years old. The game has always been in my blood and from as far back as I can remember I've always had a ball at my feet. I've always been passionate and dedicated to the sport. I practice 5-6 times a week with my club team and my own private training sessions with my dad(and some teammates that join us occasionally). Over the course of many years of training I have trained intensely to even better improve my ball control, dribbling, passing, etc. with my dominant right foot, as well as develop my weaker left foot which now is not weak anymore but my second strong foot. Also, another natural gift of mine was speed. I have always been a fast kid, and speed is a crucial factor when it comes to soccer. Many of the best players in the world have that trait in common, speed. On top of doing hill sprints and suicides on my own time to develop my speed and stamina, Sophomore year in high school I decided to do track for the first time. It was the first sport that I did other than soccer and I loved it. I met new people, learned new exercises for the gym, and got to feel what it is like to win a medal for something new. My positions in soccer left/right winger, attacking midfielder, and center forward. I love those positions because they allow me get the ball at my feet, dribble and distribute. My main virtues are dribbling and passing and I've played a large role as a playmaker in my career. I am also very good at finishing inside the box, especially when it comes to one on one against the goalie. These positions allow me get the ball at my feet and create opportunities for the team and myself.

Of course, the main point about college is not sports, but academics. I can't remember a time when my parents let me go unpunished for getting less than a 90 or A- in a subject. Another blessing of mine is my smarts. Fortunately school has never been difficult or hard for me like it has been and is still is for many people that I know. My parents and I have always set high standards for myself when it comes to school because, soccer whether pro or amateur will end one day, whereas school and your smarts are with you until the day you die. I've always gotten good grades thanks largely to my parents and their attention and concern for my well being. They have always been there asking me if I did everything, if I have any projects and they really keep me on top of my game because they too, would love to see their son go to a great college and become a successful young man. Plus, from what my older sister, who went to Muhlenberg College), told me and what her friends and many adult friends of mine told me, college is a great experience and it's where some of the greatest memories of your life will come from. I'm excited to go and create new experiences for myself and really enjoy being away from home.

Finally, I'm a responsible person who can take care of himself and like to help others when I can. I don't go out to parties that much which cuts my chances of getting into trouble in half and I'm very focused when I want to achieve something. Right now, what I want to achieve is getting athletic and academic scholarships to a good college and come out with little to no debt and a major in sports communications. I'm very family oriented and have always had a close relationship with my family. My dad and I really get along and we always go out and train together as much as possible. My soccer ability and passion, my strong academic foundation, and my simple lifestyle make me a great candidate for any college as I have many attributes to contribute on the field and in the classroom and I can't wait to prove myself in college.
