My name is Charlie Clarke and I am currently a student-athlete at Galway Junior/Senior High School. I will be graduating in June 2021. Galway High School is a class C school, with classes of roughly 60-90 kids. I have been playing soccer for most of my life. I played two years of modified, then joined the varsity team my freshman year. I became a captain my sophomore year. This past soccer season, my junior year, the Western Athletic Conference named me WAC Hudson Division Most Valuable Player. My team also won the league title, going undefeated in our league. (This was a huge turnaround, as in 2018, our team won only 1 game all season.) This season we were eliminated in the semifinals of class C sectionals. Voorheesville eliminated us, then went on to win sectionals and made it into the state final four. I led our team in assists and was second in goals. In addition to playing for the Galway varsity team, I have played for two club teams. I have been on the Galway Thunder travel team for 4 years. In 2017 we went undefeated in the league, making us number one. As of this year, I also play for FC Dutchmen Impact u17.
In addition to standing out on the soccer field, I do very well in the classroom. I have taken the toughest classes available to me all the time I’ve been in high school. Since freshman year, my overall average has not dropped below 95%. This will most definitely continue through senior year and into college. My collegiate goals include performing exceptionally well academically, as well as excelling on the soccer field, no matter the college I attend. I would love to play for a Division 1 team. I believe that I really stand out from other recruits in character, athletics, and academics. I go to a small school, so the bonds I have developed over the years are very strong. This has helped my character tremendously.
Where I really excel is athletics. I am quite quick - I run a 12 second 100m. My endurance is very good also. My mile time is 5 minutes flat, which I achieved during winter training. Academically, I am a member of National Honor Society and boast “Academic Scholar” rank since my freshman year, all the while taking difficult classes. In conclusion, I am very interested in playing soccer at the college level.
