Andrew Foster '24 Recruiting Profile

  I have always love to be active and was running before I could walk. I really enjoy team sports like soccer because I enjoy working with others. I am a very social, happy person. I am an optimist who tries to see the good in most situations. I am a hard worker who knows that you have to put in your time to see results.  My grandfather instilled in me the importance of perseverance and although I have been told I have a natural gift when it comes to playing soccer, I know that its more important to be disciplined and smart in the approach to the game. If you don't help your teammates excel and improve you will never achieve great things as a team.

We had an amazing soccer season for my senior year at Kingston High School. Three years before my senior year our Varsity's team record was 2-9-1. My senior year we won our section for the first time ever and our record became 11-5-1.  I was given recognition as an NYSPHSAA large school All State team as well as All Section Team. I was the leading striker for our section as well having the highest goals (18) this 2023 season as well as last season (12 goals)

For my first year of college, I chose to play at SUNY Ulster under the leadership of Jamal Lis Simmons. Coach Jamal has led the Ulster Senators to several conference championships. We had a very good season but were unable to maintain our championship title.  I was selected as the Most Valuable Player in the Mid Hudson conference and Section 15 NJCAA All Region 1st Team. I had 18 goals and 6 assists for the season which was ranked 4th in the country for goals scored.  I was also selected as National NJCAA Player of the Week and Mid Hudson Conference Player of the week for scoring hat tricks for three games in a row.  I had either a goal or assists in all but two games played in the regular season.

I understand being an underdog and always feel like that makes me just work harder. Soccer is such an amazing game because you truly have to utilize all your teammates to get the ball from one side down to the net. Passing and making smart plays truly define the sport and I love that I can be creative in making opportunities. 

For high school and part of college  I have played at the striker position a lot because I definitely have the best conversion percentage to get the ball in the net.  But I think my best skills are not just my goals.   The first is that I am super fast, I won the elementary schools track meet 200 meter race. I am not just running fast all the time but use explosive bursts to help create opportunities. Secondly, I am really good at passing to the person who has the best field advantage to bring the ball forward, I have also been told that I have a gift of seeing the whole field and looking at the game holistically. 

I want to go an academic challenging school as I understand athletics aren't everything and I would like to have the opportunity to prepare myself to excel off the field. I like to think that my intelligence is also one of my gifts and I am really good with numbers so will likely go into the business field and perhaps combine both of my passions in a field like Sports Management
