When I first stepped into the goal mouth as a little 7 year old, I never imagined how much I would come to love “the beautiful game” that we call “soccer". Over the years, I have worked very hard to hone my skills and become the best player I can be. Stopping others from getting the ball into the back of the net is what I live for. I am confident that my contribution in goal is essential to my teams’ success.
Goalkeeping is my passion and I jump at any opportunity to improve and play the game. I started as the Varsity keeper my freshman year, helping my team win the first league championship in our school’s history. My Sophomore season we moved from D3 to D2, though we were by far the smallest school in the division and went the farthest in tournament play in school history. We finished as District Runners-up with a record of 16-1-3 ;10 of those wins were shutouts. My junior year we were Sectional champions and finished with a winning season and 8 shutouts. I currently have a career total of 467saves and a save percentage of 86.6%. While Goalkeepers don’t often get much recognition, I was selected for Second Team- All League my Sophomore and Junior years and Honorable Mention- All District my sophomore year.
In addition to playing for my high school, I also play as the primary Goalkeeper in the winter and spring for the Toledo Celtics 2006 Black team. I have really enjoyed getting to play on the same team and build relationships with top athletes from a variety of schools in the Toledo area. I am so grateful to my coaches who have pushed and encouraged me and given me the opportunities within the club to grow. The keeper specific training I have received has really elevated my game as has traveling and playing against stiff competition. This summer, my team qualified to play in the National Premier League Finals held in Denver, Colorado; it was an incredible experience to play teams of such a high caliber. My days are filled with soccer and I just can’t get enough of it!
I believe that playing multiple sports has helped my athletic development. While in high school, I have lettered in 4 Varsity sports. In additional to Varsity Soccer, i lettered in Cross Country my Freshman year. I play Basketball in the winter. I lettered as a Sophomore and will be playing again this year. This year, I decided to try Football for the first time. After Soccer practice, I went to Football practice during the week and played as the Kicker on Friday nights. It was a lot of fun playing in front of such large crowds and being part of another team. I was shocked and honored when I was told that I had been selected for Second Team All- League.
I am a hard working, driven, and self motivated person. I love to stay busy, so being a multi-sport varsity athlete while maintaining a GPA of 3.962 is something that is manageable for me. I am really proud of the fact that, even while going through the hardest thing in my life the last couple years: watching my mom fight stage 3 cancer, I have been able to maintain my focus, keep my grades up, and continue to push myself and develop my craft. I strive to be a leader both on and off the field and try to be a mentor to younger players. This year I was selected to be captain for my Soccer team. I am the type of person that will put in extra hours outside of practice, whenever and however I can, to improve my game. I enjoy lifting weights, refereeing youth soccer games, coaching youth soccer and basketball, and filling in for any soccer team that needs me to play on the field or in goal. In addition to sports, I have taken on a leadership role with my church youth group, am a peer leader at my school for the Sources of Strength program, and am a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, and Quiz Bowl. I believe that my active lifestyle is preparing me for success as a college student athlete.
I am still finalizing my career goals, but am currently looking to play Soccer while obtaining my degree. I am looking for a school where I will be able to grow personally, professionally, spiritually, and athletically. I want to build strong relationships and make a positive impact wherever I go.
