Growing up playing soccer on recreation, travel, and club teams, I have always taken pride in my versatility of playing in both the field and as a goalkeeper. My first role was primarily as a striker which helped me develop my foot skills and overall knowledge of the game. Ultimately by playing all the positions on the pitch I got a great feel for the game, not just saving shots between the sticks.
Even as I tried out for my high school team freshman year it was unclear which position I would play. However, during the first preseason open field scrimmage the coaches were impressed with how I ‘controlled my box’ when I was playing keeper. From that point forward I was installed as the starting keeper actually beating out the previous year’s starter and have been there ever since. Now that I am in my fourth year as starter, I have become very focused on breaking the career record of shutouts for my high school. I went into the season with 14 career clean sheets and have already added 4 more this year. I am now 2 shy of the record.
I have always dreamed of playing soccer in college. I truly love the sport and with the encouragement of my coaches and parents (and the fact that I have grown 6 inches since entering high school), I look forward to taking my game to the next level!
