I was introduced to several different sports at a young age and found that I enjoyed soccer and basketball the most. I currently play both sports at a high-level for my school and club teams, and I want to continue playing both for as long as possible. Being a multi-sport athlete helps me stay strong and fit, and each sport provides skills that enhance my performance in the other. Playing basketball helps me as a goalkeeper by having strong hands and absorbing body contact. By constantly using my feet in soccer, I've developed good balance and quick feet.
Though I've played soccer since I was 5 years old, I haven't always been a goalkeeper. I have played as a forward and defender in the past, so I feel that I have a great understanding of what's happening on the pitch from front to back. This helps me with providing direction to and leading my teammates in building from the back, which is a skill that I have improved upon each season. I've always been big for my age and young for my grade level having a June birthday, which has been challenging when competing against smaller, older, and faster players. The good news is that I am getting faster and stronger having begun weightlifting and agility training last year, so I feel that I have lots of room for improvement over the next few years of high school in strength and explosiveness. I'm constantly working to improve my game and having moved from recreational soccer to ODP Regional Team selection in 3 short years shows I have the dedication to make it happen.
Although I haven't fully decided on a major in college, I do have interests in engineering, design, sports management, and exercise science. I was a member of the National Junior Honor Society and enjoy volunteering in my community. As I proceed through my high school career, I hope to continue my academic success in honors and accelerated classes by staying on the A-Honor Roll and looking for additional opportunities to lead in and outside of the classroom.
