As long as I can remember I have enjoyed playing soccer and learning new information. Those two passions have remained constant until this day. I feel that these two passions make me an excellent candidate to be a scholar-athlete at the collegiate level. I understand that writing a personal statement is the expected norm, but instead, I thought it would be more appropriate to share the opinion of one of my High School Soccer Coaches.
Respectfully,

My words will not do him enough justice, but it is my honor to tell you a little bit about Elijah Sadler in this recommendation letter.
I was Elijah’s coach for our JV boys’ soccer team last season. In all my years since I started coaching back in 2001, I can safely say that Elijah is one of my hardest workers of all time. He carries an intensity that is infectious to all the players around him. In truth his intensity is something that carries over to me as well. He can inspire others to work harder because of his sheer determination to be better.
Elijah is not only a good player he is smart and dependable. All season long through games and practices he developed better passing, foot skills, and positioning. He made runs forward when we needed him to and covered for teammates that were beaten. To some degree he is so dependable that when we played teams with juniors as forwards and Elijah being a freshman I didn’t worry about the other team scoring because Elijah shuts down his opponents.
For a person of remarkable intensity you could never guess just how composed he is in bad situations. Elijah doesn’t seem to rattle when he is fouled, when somebody talks trash to him, or he makes a mistake himself. I believe he has figured out how to channel that into working harder letting whatever anger could have manipulated him into a driving force to allow his actions on the field do the talking for him. It shows that he disciplines himself to stay composed and succeed at the task at hand.
Elijah is also a stand-up guy. At the end of the season he was the first person to say thank you for letting me play on the team. In all honesty I had to be the person to thank him for being on the team and putting in all his hard work. Without Elijah our season and our team would have been very different.
Elijah’s attitude, work ethic, and intensity don’t come along very often and especially not all wrapped up in one person. I am more than grateful, I have been honored to be his coach.
Respectfully,
