Personal Statement
My name is Cameron Lorie. I am in the class of 2024 at Grant High School in Portland Oregon. I play forward and on the wing for both United PDX Premier Club and for my Grant High School Varsity.
I was first introduced to soccer as an infant watching matches with my dad. This is something he and I continue to do together whenever we can. Watching soccer and analyzing how the game is played is something I have always loved. Many coaches acknowledge my incredible soccer IQ and field awareness. I believe this is in large part due to the many years I have spent watching and discussing soccer with my dad who played DI soccer at Bucknell University. My soccer career began when I was 3 years old playing SoccerKids in San Francisco. I haven't stopped playing since.
Prior to living in Portland I was captain of my club team, San Francisco United, for 5 years playing forward. I moved to Portland in summer of 2020 and earned a spot on the United PDX Premier level team. My premier club team, United PDX has won the Oregon State Cup and made it to quarter-finals of the USYS Far West Regionals the the past 2 years. This past Fall I was the only Sophomore on our Grant High School Varsity team which won the conference and made it to the state semi-finals.
I am a strong academic student who excels in math and Spanish. I have an interest in photography which I have taken the past 2 years. I am a dedicated student with goals of going to an excellent academic college program. For many years I have volunteered with young children at academic summer camps, soccer camps and youth soccer programs. Last summer I was an early childhood education intern for a preschool summer program.
As a soccer player I will always be the hardest working player on the field no matter the occasion, from practice drills to finals games in big tournaments. I am consistently acknowledged for my leadership skills on the field and within our team. My strength as a leader is my ability to communicate in a way that comes across with authority and respect, positivity and engagement. I bring and energy that has been said to shift the momentum on the field. I am also a versatile player, formerly playing as an outside back for both my club and high school.
I have a new coach for my premier club team. and after only 3 weeks on the job he said this to my parents "Cam is a joy to coach. He will be a part of my leadership group. He is responsible on and off the field. And is arguably our hardest worker on the field."
