Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Lucian Hardy. I am currently a senior at Grant High School in Portland, OR. I am a captain and start as a center-back on my high school varsity team. We are one of the top teams in the state. I currently play on Portland City United 2006 Red 1 (top team) as the starting right center back. We are ranked 2nd in Oregon and 180th in the country. Last year, I made the Olympic Development Program for my last eligible year. When I am on the field, I am constantly communicating to my teammates and always know what to do before I get the ball. If I lose the ball, I always sprint back and try to win it back.
I have been playing soccer for over 12 years. When I was in kindergarten, my parents signed me up for a soccer camp led by the high school soccer team. Now, I’m on that high school team. From there, I signed up for my local rec team and played as much as possible. My best friend across the street is three years older than me and got me really into soccer. In the summer and weekends, we would watch soccer really early in the morning and play as late as we could every day. That is when I started to take it really seriously and work towards my goal of becoming a professional soccer player. When I was nine, I tried out for and got on a competitive club team. Since then, I have practiced nearly every day and have played competitive soccer year round. Besides playing soccer, I am really interested in studying geography. My friends and I have memorized countries, capitals, and maps. I think my great memory serves me well in geography and soccer. I am a great candidate because when I love something, like soccer, I put my all into it, to strive to be the best team player I can be.
