Personal Statement

My name is Bryan Contreras-Villa, and I grew up in the rural town of Tillamook, OR. Anything but typical describes my pathway in soccer. Unlike most, I didn't compete in ODP programs growing up or participate in high school state tournaments. In fact, I didn't even have access to competitive club soccer until I was old enough to drive myself hours to play in Portland.

What I didn't have in the way of early opportunities, I've more than made up for with grit, perseverance, and an unrelenting passion for the game. Growing up in a small, often-overlooked town, I learned to view challenges as opportunities and obstacles as goals to overcome. I worked diligently to evolve my game, extending myself into competing at levels beyond what seemed possible.

I am not a big believer that a youth resume defines who you are as a player. Past playing careers, stats, and accolades may speak to a player's potential, but mean absolutely nothing without hard work and dedication toward becoming the player you can be. That thought has driven me to never stop growing and improving, regardless of what has been placed before me.

I became the captain of my JUCO team, an All-Star Second Team selection in the NWAC, and played semi-pro soccer with the Vancouver Victory through hard work and determination. These experiences have molded me into the disciplined and coachable player that I am today, seeking to learn and grow with every opportunity.

I consider myself a student of the game: a player who thrives on adaptability and leadership both on and off the field. My goal is to bring this same determination and work ethic to my next team, contributing not only to its success but also to its culture.

Playing soccer taught me lots of valuable lessons that helped me in my progress throughout these years, such as never giving up, being a good team player, and the responsibility of repaying the trust others instill in me. I tackle each new challenge-in and out of the classroom-with the same passion and commitment that carried me to this level.

By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
