Matthew LaPenna '19 Recruiting Profile

My goal currently as a junior in high school is to strive to do the best I can in all areas of life including personal relationships, school work, and athletics and to develop good habits allowing me to pursue my highest capabilities. I wish to grow and improve and attain all that I can...If I do that the opportunities are endless!

For as long as I can remember, I have had my foot on the ball. I started playing soccer at the age of 5 and have never missed a season. Over the years I have gained a love for the game, and a passion that is still growing. I can see the field well, and as a defender have the ability to make quick decisions. My short and long passing are both excellent as is my 50/50 challenges and tackling.  Per my club Coach Pereira's player evaluation (2016), this season I have "Improved my confidence and have become a leader...Has a great attitude and commitment."  At the end of this 2017 season, I was asked to join the Elite team for their final regular season match and then on to State Cup. I am excited to be given the opportunity. My goal is to be able to play well and have a shot to play Premier level next year.  On another note, I also enjoy fencing...In the two years that I fenced, our team did very well. 2015 State Champions and 2016 Runner-up.  I believe that having fencing skills are a great addition to my agility on the soccer field. 

I have an interest in film and video editing...When I don't have a ball at my foot, I have a camera in hand. I have been working in film, photography and editing for the past few years and have also completed a summer internship with a local creative company. I hope to find the right college that fits my educational needs and to play Division I or II soccer while attending.
