I have been playing and loving soccer as long as I can remember, starting with the Y at 3 years old. My experience starting with recreation leagues and progressing from challenge to travel levels has given me the passion and desire to play in the future at the highest level I can. I enjoy both the training for soccer and playing the games and really look forward to my soccer tournament weekends. My current travel team is Soccer Organization Charlottesville Area (SOCA) and I am a starter on the JV team for my high school team (Western Albemarle) as well as an invited player on Varsity at times. Western Albemarle varsity boys soccer team won the state title in 2022.
In addition to soccer, I also swim for Western. I made the state team as a freshman and again this year as a sophomore. Up until this school year I participated on a competitive year-round swim team (Cavalier Aquatics) as well. This season I decided to focus more attention and time on soccer. My years as a swimmer instilled in me a sense of responsibility, hard work and ability to overcome disappointments. Our practices were daily at 5:30 am and I was able to balance this in addition to honors classes at school and evening soccer practices. Switching to high school swimming did not remove the morning practices but it has given me more time to practice soccer and recover after evening training and games.
I was also a competitive gymnast up through 6th grade, competing at level 7 in my final year. This experience, like swimming, helped to develop my mental toughness. I would spend hours each day practicing to compete in an event for about one minute 5 times in a year. The other benefit of gymnastics was the physical strength and improved body control. In soccer I notice I am more physical on and off the ball than most players. And as a fun helpful skill, I am able to do a front handspring flip-throw up to about 40 yards. Thank you for considering me for your soccer program.
