Hello!
My name is John Heaphy, and I am swimmer for Chugiak Aquatics Club and Eagle River High School.
I started swimming when I was 12 years old, however I didn't take it very seriously. Over the years and as I began high school I transitioned from playing other sports to focus solely on swimming.
The highlight of my swimming career so far has actually been being seeded first at Alaska Junior Olympics and finishing sixth. It taught me a lot about myself as a person and a competitor. I was very upset with myself and I turned that anger into a motivation that I then used to fuel me for the next season. Then a year later at the same meet I finished first with a best time. This taught me how to overcome adversity and how to redirect my negative energy into positive.
I believe that, although being somewhat new to the sport of swimming, I have what it takes to learn from my coaches and develop myself into the best student athlete I can possibly be!
