Brendan Gilliano '14 Recruiting Profile

I am an inventor. I have always had creative ideas that I want to put into motion. Throughout my life I have always been involved in sports and found swimming to be my passion.  Since I was little, I struggled with physical ability because my chest was sunken in and I could not keep up with endurance activities.  I swam from the age of 4, and by 7 years old I was 8th in the State YMCA championships, but could not continue.  I tried other sports until it got so bad, I could not be active.  The doctors put a bar in my chest to expand when I was 14, and I just had it removed this Winter.  With the bar in place I returned to competitive swimming and made it to Florida State Championships this Senior year.  My times have been fast, but with the bar out and my breathing strong, I am even faster.  I can do a 22 second 50 free-style.   

     I have always loved to create and invent and my goal is to become an engineer and design and create things.  I am working on a project now to build a car that works on water and air power with solar mixed in as energy. I hope to get into a good school and begin to fulfill my dream and perhaps, with my love for swimming to even tryout and compete for the Olympics.
