I am different from other recruits because I have a very strong sense of who I am as a person. I know that I am more than just an athlete, which allows me to have a unique mindset when swimming. I am a calm, confident athlete who performs when it is time to perform. After making the realization that my self-worth wasn’t defined by swimming, I saw much better results. Compartmentalizing swimming keeps me from burning out and experiencing mental fatigue. Not only is my body strong, so is my mind.
Above all else, I value community on my teams. I’ve been at the same summer team for the past ten years and those are some of my fondest memories as a swimmer. My summer team is very small, but we have been through a lot, which motivated me over the years. I’ve found that I swim better when I feel a part of a greater goal and effort. I’m more driven and swimming is more fun overall. I also feel more confident leading my team when we are all connected. I love my high school team as well because we are a family and that what I'm looking for in college. I need a coach and a team that believes in me and I believe in. That is when I know my true potential will be released.
