My name is Hung Nguyen, and I am currently a senior at Saint Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights, Minnesota. I have been swimming competitively on many club teams since I was 10 years old, and I am currently swimming on Blackline Aquatics. I also swim for Saint Thomas Academy's Swim and Dive team, as this is my fifth year on the team with Coach John Barnes. Saint Thomas Academy is a college preparatory institution. My high school also focuses on three critical pillars; all-male, military tradition, and a faith-based institution. I believe this school is one of its kind in Minnesota as it shares its challenging curriculum and brotherhood among young men. I have always excelled and had a passion for science and math courses. I am interested in the medical field and striving to major in pre-med.
I started swimming at a young age due to a bone tumor in my right leg. After years of surgery and medical procedures, I was finally able to walk normally again during the first grade. My doctor suggested that I try swimming as it would be a great aid to my right leg. Since then, I have had a passion for continuing with the sport of swimming until this day.
Every day I look forward to challenging myself, whether it is in the water or the classroom. As of now, I am currently taking classes only consisting of AP and Honors courses. During the swim season, I push myself every day to get better, even if it beats me at the end of the day. I always support and encourage my teammates to make every day count.
