Personal Statement

COVID lockdown in the city taught me a lot about work ethic and focus: from training on a Vasa in my bedroom for two months, to using cords in a backyard pool for June, and later, relocating multiple times to swim with teams in different regions where pools were cleared to open.  This constant pursuit of water to continue my daily practice has meant digging deep, and accepting a some degree of uncertainty, in order to continue improving.  My sub-minute 100 Breast - like all my events - continues to significantly drop as I work on specific improvements to my technique and my body continues to grow.   Before COVID-19 closures I was a Finalist at the Senior Metropolitan LSC Champion Meet (2020), and 1st seed Finalist @ East Zones LC Age Group Championships.

I began competing with a club in my Sophomore year (2018-19), but have loved swimming since I was nine years old (back then my love for cross-country running, as well as my love for chess kept me from clubs for three-time National Chess Championship runs).  As a relative latecomer my times continue to significantly drop - and will continue to drop - as I continue making adjustments and as body continues to grow.

Academically,  I am exploring majors in sciences relating to health and medicine, and I am considering pursuing a pre-med track as an undergraduate.  I want to be at a school that is intellectually rigorous.  I am currently taking AP Calculus AB, and was honored to be selected for the Bronx Science Design Institute (2019) and the Bronx Science Summer Coding Academy (2018).

  • 1 year
  • Swimming 7 x per week (Monday-Saturday, Double Wednesday), and Drylands 3 x per week.
  • Asphalt Green Swim League
  • 3 years
  • During middle school, I swam 3 x a week with the Asphalt Green Swim League - a training squad that provides a team-like training atmosphere for swimmers at the highest level of the Asphalt Green Swim School curriculum. Led by their USA Swimming-certified coaching staff, the program is an excellent way to transition into competitive swimming and acclimate to training multiple times per week. We strive to create a culture that develops a passion for the sport while inspiring our athletes to become leaders in the community. Through practice and competition, swimmers will refine stroke technique, build strength and endurance, improve self-confidence, and thrive during their formative years.
  • Manhattan Makos Junior Squad
  • 1 year
  • Transitioning to Junior, I swam 6 x week, and drylands 3 x week. During my Junior training I built up my endurance to advance to the Senior squad by March 2019 and eventually worked my way up to becoming the fastest freestyle and breaststroke sprinter on the team.
  • SQUAD
  • 1 year
  • Having decided to compete in clubs following my Freshmen high school swim season, I began training with Imagine 'SQUAD' 4 x week. The goal of the SQUAD program is to continue refining strokes, increasing endurance, and on general fitness in the water. I developed endurance and improved form to begin competing, and to qualify for Manhattan Makos Junior Squad by the beginning of my Sophomore year.
  • Sharks Swimming Training Camp
  • 1 year
  • Completed rigorous two month training program run by Sharks Swimming during COVID-19 summer of 2020 at Spook Rock Pool long course outdoor facility in Suffern NY. Swimming 6 x per week, and Drylands 3 x per week.
