How many people would ask for constructive criticism? In my development as a swimmer, constructive criticism is exactly what has been needed to move forward and become a stronger swimmer. Swimming has been a part of my life for 8 years, but just last week my coaches were giving me new direction on my dive off the block. I can’t wait to implement these changes and see what it does to my times. I have improved my times and skills every year! My skills were developed by caring coaches and by me putting in many hours of hard work. I can acknowledge my weakness and put forth the effort every day to improve. I am a quiet person by nature; therefore, you will receive more listening than talking from me.
I am currently a club member of the Slippery Rock Swim Team. I have won awards for most points at our league championship meets and beat multiple team records. My involvement doesn't stop at league meets but continues with USA meets where I have qualified to participate in the Gold Championship meets. Our high school doesn't have a swim team, so I compete as an independent swimmer. I enjoy being part of a team and encouraging other teammates, so this was a very different atmosphere. Although independent swimming had some challenges, I placed in the top three at the district championship in both 9th and 10th grade with advancement to the State Championship in 10th grade.
I can successfully manage my time between achieving and maintaining high grades, being a mentor for other students, working as a lifeguard, volunteering to give swim lessons and practicing 6 days a week.
My next set of goals at the collegiate level is to develop even stronger swimming skills and help contribute to the success of a swim team while maintaining high grades in a biology major. I am up to the challenges that being a college athlete will bring and look forward to being a part of the college swim team.
Thank you for your time!
