My name is James Nicholson and I am a student athlete. I believe hard work and having the right priorities will result in success both in and out of the classroom. I am committed to bettering myself and getting the most out of my college experience.
What I want to get from college is to discover something that I love to do. My goal is to find a curriculum that interests me with the end result in finding a job that aligns with my Major.
My academic journey has not been without setbacks. One of my setbacks early in life was my dyslexia. I always had trouble reading and I did not know why. When I was in third grade I was tested for dyslexia. When I found out that I had dyslexia I took control of the situation. I spent 3 years with a dyslexia therapist, working daily after school. I made sure the schools knew that I had dyslexia and needed certain accommodations.
Another one of my setbacks was during my freshman year. I started off well getting all of my work done for my classes; but by the 5th week of school my grades started to decline. I started to try harder towards the end of the year but it was too late. In my freshman year I had a problem balancing sports, school, and other activities. As a sophomore I have learned how to balance everything and manage my time. I am in a much better place. I have been able to make it all to my swim and hockey practices while maintaining good grades. My performance in the pool and on the ice has dramatically improved. I also have a clearer focus on my academic goals and how to achieve them.
Today my grades remain strong and I continue to balance all of my activities. I am still studying and training even though we are not allowed to leave our houses because of COVID-19. My parents have noticed this dedication are also very happy with how I am able to stay on top of my work.
With this in mind I am looking for a college that meets my athletic and academic goals. The right college for me should provide the opportunity for me to study environmental science and business. The school has to be very interactive with its students, and provides opportunities for growth. I am looking forward to starting this new chapter in my life.
