Personal Statement
My name is Sean koetting. I am 18 years old, 6'4", 213 pounds, and am a Senior at Texas Military Institute in San Antonio, Texas. It is a private, college preparatory school. I am a member of NHS, Vice President of InterACT Club, Priceless People, and was the Vice President of Student Council my Sophomore and Junior year. At TMI, I am on the varsity swim team and have been since freshman year. I have broken two school records in 100 back swimming a 54.35 and 100 free swimming a 49.52, short course yards. Additionally, I have broken the school records in the 100 fly, 200 back, 200 free, and 500 free. I achieved my first Sectionals cut at my state meet in February 2009. Following that, I received Sectional times in 2009 in the 500 free and in 2010 in the 200 free. I have been committed to swimming club, Alamo Area Aquatics, since January of my freshman year. I began Summer league in 3rd grade and finished when I entered high school. While attending TMI, I maintain a solid schedule. I swim 4 hours each day and have weight training on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
I recently achieved my Junior Nationals cut and an All American title in the 100 back. I broke the TAPPS state record and set a new school record.
While attending TMI and swimming I have developed discipline and a solid work ethic and a love for both sports and academics. Being a college preparatory school, TMI holds its students to a very high standard; therefore, we live by an Honor Code: Because I believe that integrity is essential, I promise not to lie, cheat, or steal.
I am searching for a university that holds student honor to a higher standard, has great academics, and is very competitive in athletics. Size nor location matters; however, I am searching for more West Coast to South Central colleges.
TMI has instilled in me a sense of determination, purpose, leadership, and a drive to be ultimately successful. I have a hunger to work, to learn, and to lead.
