Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Andrea De La Mora, and I am a member of the 2023 class. I'm inspired both academically and athletically to fulfill my goal of playing college soccer. Since I was four years old in my hometown of Acapulco, Mexico, I've been a huge fan of this sport. I used to tell my mother that I wanted to play on the only boy's team in my school along with my older brother when I was a little girl in Mexico. I recall her reminding me that it was only for boys and that I was not permitted to participate. That didn't deter me until she asked the coach to let me play, which he did. That's when my mother knew I had a dream and was determined to pursue it. When I was seven years old, I came to the United States to avoid the risks of my home country and to pursue my hopes of playing college soccer and receiving a better education. I also traveled to Spain to play soccer with experienced trainers on the training grounds of the Real Madrid soccer team where I experienced and learned a lot in just a few training sessions.
I know that everywhere I go to college, I will leave my heart, zeal, and dedication on and off the field. This sport has instilled in me the values of hard work, perseverance, and discipline. Learning from our failures and what we do after making an error, as well as knowing how to deal with life's ups and downs. Anticipate opportunities and collaborate with my colleagues to overcome any obstacles that arise. I believe in hard work and determination, something I continue to do throughout and after high school.
