Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Jackson DuBose. I started swimming competitively during my freshman year of high school when I joined the Sky View High School swim team. I found that I really loved swimming. During my sophomore year, I decided to try competing at the club level, as well as high school. I started swimming year round with the club team to get more experience and more opportunities to compete. I've only really been competing seriously for the past 2 and a half years, and my times have significantly dropped from then until now. The more I get the opportunity to compete and improve, the more I find I enjoy it. I enjoy not only the competition, but the hard work that goes into the daily workouts.
My father has coached volleyball at a collegiate level my whole life, but I have just discovered that some colleges do, in fact, have men's swimming! And I would like to have the experience of a college athlete, that I have seen so many people experience. I would love to have the experience as a collegiate swimmer.
My academics are very important to me. I have always tried to do my best to study hard and learn. I realize that education is a wonderful opportunity, and that it is not something to be taken for granted. I would like to take every opportunity I can get to increase my knowledge and experiences.
Religion and service have always played a huge role in my life. I am planning on serving a full-time (two year) mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I think by serving others for two years, I will become a more well-rounded person.
