John Gibson '20 Recruiting Profile

My goal is to attend a university that offers two things: the chance to grow by exploring my interests to the fullest, and the opportunity to pursue swimming to the highest level I can reach. I do not know now what career I will choose as an adult. I am especially interested in history, geography and English. It will be important to me in choosing a career that it challenges and inspires me, and gives me a chance to give back in some way. I want a college experience that lets me journey through different subjects to discover and nurture a passion as strong as the one I have for swimming, and equips me to follow that passion in life. Along the way, I will do everything in my power to swim at a national and international level.

My commitment and willingness to listen carefully, learn from mistakes and work harder than anyone to achieve my dreams helped me overcome severe dyslexia to read, and significant asthma to swim. My teachers and coaches have always complimented me on my effort, attention, and willingness to lead but be a solid team player. I believe these qualities will enable me to succeed in school, in the pool, and in life.
