Dear Coach,
My name is Robert and I am from Spain, in Europe. I have played tennis since I was 4 years old and I have been in competitions for the past 5 years. I have studied all my secondary school years in Spain where I am from, but currently I am doing my Senior year in the US as an international student. I am studying in Dock Menonite Academy in Pennsylvania and I live with a host family.
I definitely love living in the US and it is my aim to try to be able to pursue my further studies here in the United States where i hope to be able to combine my studies at college and to continue playing tennis. In Spain students do not have much support in orther to play in competitive teams when they are at college so I believe that earning a place in an american college and being selected by a tennis team would be perfect for me.
I will tell you more about my tennis curriculum in Spain where I have played all my life. As I said I have played since I was a little child and I was in competitions for the five last years. In Spain we do not play sports at schools (we do not have school teams) but in clubs. I have always played in club near to the area where I live and that is called Club Penyes Males.
I was the sub champion in the junior provincial championship in 2018. I was the champion in the provincial tournament in Gandia in december 2017. During that year of 2017 I ended subchampion / champion in other different tournaments of Jody-Tour, tecnifibre, etc.
Before I left Spain and came to the US last august, my last ranking number in Spain was 890 before I moved to the US for this year. I could be in a better position but I was injured last year and was not able to play during several months in different tournaments what affected to my ranking number.
Now that I am studying in Dock Menonite in Pennsylvania I have joined the soccer varsity team in the fall season (that is another sport that I liked) because it helped me to make friends as when I arrived I did not know anyone. I plan to play with the Dock Menonite Men's tennis team next spring. In the meantime I am training in a club of the area where I am living that is called Tennis Zone and I plan to participate in some tournaments as well. But up to now I do not have a USTA ranking number.
I am also getting prepared for siting the SAT and TOEFL exams, as required for me to apply for a university in the US.
I am very excited about the idea of studying in the US and playing in a team here. Since I arrived, I have realized how important sports are for the americans and that is something that I really like. But I would also like to continue studying in order to achieve a degree in international business.
I consider myself a hard working and dedicated person, it was difficult at the beginning to take the decision to come to the US and leave my family and friends in Spain but it has helped me a lot to grow as a person and to discover a new way of life.
I am looking for a school where I could do both, play tennis and study a Business degree. I would also be interested in getting some finantial help (scholarship) in order to help to cover the cost of myself studies at college.
I am more than happy to be contacted by you at any time.
Sincerely,
Robert Cercos (Spain)
