My name is Lenaic Ihirwe, and I am currently a student at South Pointe High School. I first got into track and field after finishing my soccer season last year. At the time, I joined track with the simple goal of improving my speed and overall athleticism for soccer. What began as a way to enhance my performance in another sport quickly grew into something much more meaningful.
After just a few months of running, I found myself drawn more and more to track. I discovered a passion for the sport that I had never experienced with soccer. Eventually, I made the difficult decision to step away from soccer entirely and devote myself fully to track. That decision has completely changed my life. Not only has track given me a deeper appreciation for fitness and discipline, but it has also taught me the value of consistency, commitment, and perseverance. Through the daily challenges of practice and competition, I have come to understand what it truly means to lead a healthy lifestyle — both physically and mentally.
Track has also provided me with opportunities that I never had with soccer. It has opened doors to new experiences, helped me build meaningful relationships, and challenged me to become the best version of myself. I take great pride in my work ethic. I make it a personal goal to show up to practice every day with determination and to give 100% effort in every drill, every workout, and every race. I believe that success starts with discipline and showing up — even on the days when it’s hard.
Beyond my personal performance, I also take pride in my leadership. Whether it's encouraging a teammate through a tough workout or helping create a focused and positive atmosphere at practice, I strive to be someone others can count on. I believe that a strong team is built not just on talent, but on trust, unity, and support. That’s why I always aim to lead by example — not only for my teammates, but for my coaches and for myself.
Now, as my freshman year comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on everything I’ve learned so far. I am incredibly grateful for the growth I’ve experienced and the direction my journey has taken. With continued hard work and dedication — and if God allows it — I hope to keep pushing forward, reaching new goals, and making a meaningful impact on my team, my school, and everyone around me
