January 2014
Aaron Stroda - Ne...I am graduating from High School in 2014 and at this point my plan is to stay in Canada for the first year of university (UBCO, Engineering), but then to transfer for second year to the States. Unless I still find a great offer for this year!
I have proven to be a very talented and competitive athlete, winning titles at Provincial and Canadian National Championships, and receiving awards like BC Athletics Youth Athlete of the Year, Sport Hero Award etc.. All of that I have achieved in an environment that has asked a lot of self-initiative and commitment from me: I train without a group of athletes (unattached), coached by my mom, who is a former German Heptathlete and Sprinter, now a Level 3 Throws coach, with limited equipment/facilities. I have been very fortunate though to having received mentorship from Mac Wilkins and especially John Powell, whom I spend my spring training camps with.
I have also been very fortunate to learn many valuable mental performance skills from my dad who is the High Performance Mental Coach for Team Canada and several Olympic Champions - nationally and internationally.
I am looking forward to being part of a program that can help me develop further as an athlete and being in a competitive environment that pushes me towards the best I can be as an athlete. I want to receive the best coaching possible to reach my true potential!
I can also be a good team player (Volleyball-Varsity Team, School Jazz Band) and feel that my personality would enrich any team and make it stronger.
Academically I can truly say that learning comes to me easily - what I have heard once usually sticks with me; I have a strong interest in all the sciences especially math, physics, chemistry, mechanics etc. so engineering is my field of choice; once in the program it will be easier for me to decide on the final area of interest and to narrow it down.
I am also fluently bilingual having spent my first six years in Germany.
