I am a 5’7 195 lb. junior shot put thrower from Danbury, CT. I have thrown shot since my freshman year for Danbury High Schol Hatters Track & Field — a 10-time FCIAC Indoor Track & Field Champion/11-time FCIAC Outdoor Track & Field Champion. During my high school career, the Hatters have earned the Triple Crown (conference/class/state) every year.
As a sophomore I was among the top three throwers. Currently as a junior, I am the squad’s top thrower and play a critical leadership role on a young team. Since I am committed to helping the younger throwers grow, I spend a lot of time in the gym and on the field as my time is divided between helping them develop their technique and improving myself. I enjoy encouraging them as much as I enjoy challenging myself to reach the next level. I work hard and have seen considerable growth since my freshman year. My personal record for shot is 45-04.00. This represents a nine-foot jump in distance between indoor and outdoor season. With continued dedication and focus this summer and next fall, I am confident my distance will continue to increase.
I am interested in a program where I can make a big contribution early in my career. Coming from a large high school (3,000 students), I am looking for a larger-size school with a strong academic reputation in advertising & marketing. Diverse, metropolitan cities are my preference, but I am open to considering different environments. Ideally, I’d like to attend a school not more than a 3 to 5 hour drive from Connecticut because I am close to my 7-year-old brother; I don’t want the expense of travel to be a deterrent to visiting him.
Cost/Financial assistance is going to be important to me in the selection process. When I enter college my parents will have two children in school. My sister attends the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. While she has been blessed to qualify for a generous amount of needs-based assistance, my parents are already stretched trying to meet the remaining portion of her tuition on top of the student loans she has taken out.
