I aspire not only to compete in track and field at the colligate level, but also to succeed academically. Ever since my freshman year of high school, when I ran track for the first time, I have loved the sport. I find the concept of multiple individuals, with different skill sets, coming together to succeed as a team both appealing and rewarding.
It was during my initial track season that I discovered my first true athletic passion, and I truly enjoy putting the extra effort and work into training for my events in order to succeed. Since then, I have worked hard both in-season and off-season and have steadily improved my performances, especially in the long jump and hurdles. I do not believe that I have reached my full potential and at times this has been a challenge for me , as our track program does not have specialized coaching in specific event disciplines (sprinting, distance, throwing, jumping, vaulting). As a result, I consistently research training techniques and have taught myself almost everything in my chosen events in order to continue to progress from season to season.
I have also found that my passion for track and the discipline required to succeed has helped reinforce a similar drive in my academic efforts. In order to accomplish my dream of competing in collegiate track, I need to get the grades required to get into my chosen college or university. Thus, I approach schoolwork with the same mindset and determination that I have when training for track. I want to ensure that I will not have any issues getting into the schools where I can also compete in track.
