I fully dedicated myself to throwing discus and shot put in my sophomore year of high school. As soon as I realized my potential, I was hooked and ready to do all the work it takes to excel. The summer after sophomore year I put as much time as possible to train, not only in the ring but also in the gym, earning my Varsity letter.
After competing in the AAU Junior Olympics at age 14, I committed to a training regime that included 3-4 days a week with a private coach and 6 days a week in the gym. My hard work paid off and at the first meet of last school season I PR'd in discus by 9 meters, by the end of the season my PR increased by another 5 meters hitting 45.67m. I keep increasing my distance and during practice I have been throwing up to 50 m.
In shot put I have also increased my distance, my PR is 14 meters, that is 2 more meters than my sophomore year, and I earned All American status during the AAU Nationals. I am excited about what I will be able to accomplish this coming school season. I am looking forward not only to break a 12 year old discus school record, which I already did during the summer but unfortunately it does not count for the school; but I am also excited to be able to demonstrate to college coaches why my ability, strength, work ethic and passion for the sport would be a great asset to their programs.
