What are my collegiate goals and aspirations? As a child, I became fascinated with how things were made and how I could possibly make them better. In fact, I was a problem solver at an early age. Throughout the years, it has become more apparent that my dream is to become an inventor and an entrepreneur. In this pursuit, I intend to continue to keep my grades high, participate in sports and professional activities, in addition to expand my knowledge and expertise in computer science and business.
One may ask “How does a 17-year-old possibly have business experience?” To be direct, as early as 5 years of age, I accompanied my dad when he worked on his business and had an instant interest. I watched closely as he showed me how entrepreneurship could bring in more money. He explained and showed me how hard, but smart work could pay off. At times, he would ask for my input in addition to allowing me to assist in some of his business tasks and development. First hand, I learned about how to manage staff by observation.
It's also worth mentioning that I am a dedicated track athlete. Up until sophomore year, I played soccer. During soccer games, everyone always asked my parents if I ran track. In track and field, sprinting requires a lot of dedication and willpower. This is especially true in practice, where the effort you put in, decides how well you perform in a track meet. I will bring that determination to both the classroom and the track team. For starters, I achieved solid times last year, despite not being able to train and compete for a full season the previous year due to the pandemic. Additionally, I was able to maintain high grades which included AP classes and challenging work while I was on the track team. My parents tell me that at a young age, when they opened the door, I would just dart out which shows that running track is my destiny and my passion. Running also serves as an outlet for me , which allows me to perform better academically.
In addition to attending school and being involved in sports, I also have been participating in professional and community activities. For example, I am a mentee of the 100 Black Men of South Atlanta for the last 3 years. In addition, I am an active member of FBLA at school. At my church, I am involved in youth activities along with volunteering with feeding the homeless population. In my junior year, my grandfather suffered a couple of strokes and moved in with my mother and me. I assisted with my grandfather’s care when needed.
All the reasons above describe why I am the prime candidate for your team and college. I can excel in the classroom, sports, community and someday in my career. Acceptance into your program will provide me with the opportunity to attain personal growth, excel in track, and become marketable and successful. In short, I have many rare qualities that many other college applicants don’t have and will utilize them to make my college proud by achieving my goals of becoming a successful runner, inventor, and entrepreneur. If you offer me the opportunity to run track on you r team, it will enable me to make my dream a reality.
