Personal Statement
Despite being adopted from Ethiopia, I never really found running very fun growing up so I focused on soccer instead. In 7th grade, I ran cross country because our school didn’t have a soccer team but I still focused heavily on club soccer. However, placing 2nd at our cross country conference meet in both 7th and 8th grade led me to the decision to run cross country in high school over soccer. Since making that decision, I've met some of my closest friends and had experiences unlike any other. Cross country has made me a more resilient person, which helped me improve my determination to reach my potential.
I'd like to compete for a program that would allow me to develop my gift and provide me with unique opportunities. My cooperation/friendships with my teammates and determination to reach my potential makes me a good candidate for the team. In terms of athletics, my goal is to be a collegiate All-American in both cross country and track. Academically, I'd like to finish college with a degree in broadcast journalism.
