If I were to be genuine about what makes me different from other recruits it would have to be that I am not trying to fit in. Most college applicants know what they are looking for but spend hours answering the questions in the most vague and all encompassing way to appeal to as many schools and committee members or coaches as possible. This has become known as the well-rounded student. However I am not that student. I am a good student, I take hard classes and I do well in them. However I know what I am passionate about and that’s where I focus best. As a student athlete I am passionate about history, computers and track. I would rather spend my time reading about World War II, or building my own computer, I competed my first one a couple years ago and was frankly amazed and inspired, or talking to my coach about ways to improve my time, than on joining clubs and boosting my superlatives. As a man, I am passionate about my Church and my family. I spend a lot of time with my Dad, and at church. I am not the most extroverted guy, however I am loyal and eager to serve. I don’t often waiver I have known since 2006, when my family moved from Florida to Kentucky that I would return one day for college. Not that I hoped to or that I wanted to but that I would, because it’s not too hard to get the things you want if you put in the effort. What does this mean to you as a school? It means I’m looking for a family, I don’t want to be a number on a team or in a classroom, I want a place I can belong and work hard and be myself. I want teammates who want the same, teammates that are passionate and hard working and coaches who want a runner who will work hard and honestly have blinders on to most other things in college. I want to run, I want to push myself, I want to break records, I want to fit in. I want to finish a goal I set for myself 10 years ago, and I want to keep setting goals and accomplishing those. This may not make me the model candidate for all areas of college or every club, but it will make me a stand out student and a stellar athlete. Someone you’d be proud to have as a part of your school.
