Becoming the captain for the cross country team at school was a big deal for me. Normally, juniors aren't selected as captains and I was the first one to be chosen in many years. Through my extra curricular activities, I had good leadership skills. I am the president of my BBYO chapter, which is a Jewish youth group that is participated in worldwide. Being captain opened a new perspective of cross country. I knew everyone would be watching me and I would be a role model for the team. It further pushed my efforts during my junior season as I became the district champion for the second time in a row and helped lead my team to win the district race for a second time too. This year was the first time my team was able to have a chance for an award at state, so I knew I had to motivate the team to work their hardest during practices and the races. We ended 3rd overall in the state race in 9th in all of Louisiana.
